Many of us have same dilemma, can we prepare for IAS exams during Graduation?

The Indian Administrative Service – IAS Exams

The Indian Administrative Service –IAS exam is a civil services examination, conducted by the UPSC - Union Public Service Commission all over the India. It is considered as one of the most difficulty competitive exam. The basic criteria required for IAS exam are age limit of 20-30 years and the number of attempts is 6.
As per the Civil Services Examination, the revised IAS exam pattern is divided into 3 stages:
Stage 1 -- Preliminary examination, which is conducted every year in between the month of June to July.

Stage 2 -- Main examination and Interview, which is conducted every year in the month of March.

Stage 3 -- Personality Test, which is conducted every year in the month of December.

IAS SYLLABUS

The syllabus for IAS competitive exam includes Indian Politics, Geography, History, Environmental Science and other subjects related to World History, Indian Society and etc. Prelims have 2 papers for 200 marks each, the mains have 9 papers for 300 marks each and the Personality test is for those candidates, who have qualified both in Prelims and main exams. The personality Test is mainly for testing the candidate’s knowledge, personality, aptitude, leadership qualities, awareness and interests in problems solving, etc.

Here are few tips and strategies used in preparing for IAS Exam 2017.

 Before start preparing for IAS Exam, collect all the relevant information from the respective official web pages including exam timetable, application form, last date for submission, model paper, etc.

 Start your preparations from collecting all general knowledge books, social studies books, model papers, sample papers, previous year papers by approaching coaching centers.

 As there will be a lot of syllabus to complete, do not waste your precious time. Prepare a timetable having equally allotted time for each topic.

Make a regular habit of reading newspaper and make a note of all important points.

Practice more number of model papers, solve more questions from UPSC books.   

Go through the lecture notes, glossary and important points taught in the coaching centers.

Practice makes a man perfect. The more you practice; you are more comfortable with questions and can perform well in your Exams. 

Use the tips, guidelines and shortcuts given by your lectures. Take an advice from your seniors and toppers.

Have a brief study on different guides or books, as there are chances of repetition of questions.

Try to cover the complete syllabus by dividing the notes into several parts, which helps in completing syllabus in a very short time period.

Stop all the unnecessary activities during the study hour. For e.g. – stop messaging or chatting with your friends, etc.

Students can start preparing and appear for this exam at different stages. It can be from class 10, class 12, during their graduation or during their career. There are many coaching centers available with highly experienced guiders, who provide better coaching even through online.
